5 Signs You Are a Natural Born Journalist

Thinking of becoming a Journalist? Here are 5 signs that it’s in your genes!

Journalists come in many different shapes and sizes. Whether it’s a music magazine photographer or a political correspondent. How about a movie critic videographer?

Regardless of the type of journalist, there are 5 things they have in common. Have a look and see whether you share some of their traits….

  1. You love to captivate audiences through effective storytelling:

Are people amazed by your ability to effectively tell a story? Almost feeling as though they themselves were a part of it? If the answer is yes, then you have a skill that many crave!

Journalists require this skill to succeed within their industry!

  1. You have a strong interest in current affairs:

You might be thinking, what is ‘current affairs’ and why would I be interested in it? Don’t think too hard, we’ll tell you! Current affairs are reported news of a political or social nature- pretty much the epitome of ‘BREAKING NEWS’!

If you constantly find yourself interested in anything & everything news related (even the lesser-reported stories), you could be on your way to a career in journalism!

  1. You have a naturally inquisitive personality

The key to being a successful journalist is getting the answers others cannot. The best way to do that is by being very inquisitive!

What did Beyoncé mean when she stood by an Ivy plant when pregnant for Blue Ivy? Did Tupac really move to Cuba? Hmm…

If you find yourself googling all those questions, you sir/ma’am are a journalist!

  1. You love to travel

Travelling is like Marmite, you either love it or you hate it. To determine whether you’d like travelling as a journalist, consider these points:

– You’d be travelling for work purposes, not for the perfect tan!

– You’d be introduced to new people & cultures you are unfamiliar with.

– There is a lot of changes in climate (don’t forget that sunscreen…or winter jacket!)

  1. You’re willing to take risks!

As a journalist, you have to be a little like ‘Evel Knievel’! You must be able to do that little bit extra, capture that special shot, get that extra question in!

Some journalists even have to be at the front line of war. Even worse, the front like of a Justin Bieber concert! (Don’t be afraid to be trampled on!)

Taking risks can be beneficial, but also to your detriment. Be very picky when taking risks. You have been warned!

If all these traits sound familiar, you may want to have a look at a career as a journalist! Sure, it is a very busy lifestyle that often sees you work beyond the usual 9 to 5. But journalists are some of the most influential people in the world! Seeing your work touch lives may make it all worthwhile!
