We’ve been working with young people across the UK to unleash their potential and develop their talent. We’ll be highlighting some of the successful journeys of our Music Potential Graduates. Here’s Dee’s Music Potential Experience…
I was graduated in Dance and I wasn’t really looking for work because I wasn’t interested in working. I was doing lots of creative things like modelling and I wasted a lot of time. I always loved music but I had no idea how to get there. My friend told me about the Music Potential Bootcamp and that Jacob Banks would be there, so I just went for the opportunity to speak to him.
I found myself musically during Music Potential because I learned the basics of song writing and got to meet with some really cool people.
One of my highlights was meeting Nick Brewer, who is up there, and he still had time to talk to me. I was performing to the Music Potential crew and Nick Brewer came in. He sat down at the back and listened to my whole set. I didn’t even notice him come in. Then he came up to me at the end and said “You’re really good you know” and he asked me for my contact. Then, when we were emailing, he asked me did I want to perform at his debut headline show in London.
His manager gave me a list of 5/6 songs to learn the hooks of and a couple of days before the gig we had a rehearsal and then I performed at the end. It was really amazing.
The whole experience put me in contact with loads of people and it was great to meet the professionals at Nick’s gig. It was exciting for me when people actually had an interest in what I’m doing. At the moment, I work part time in retail, which helps me develop my networking skills which will be useful in the industry. I use my spare time to develop my music! Music Potential has really inspired me, focused me and made me go for it!
