We are seeking a Programme Assistant to support the Directors in the development of Open School East’s Young Associates Programme. The Young Associates Programme (YAP) is a new, free and accredited creative learning programme for people aged 16 to 19, delivered over 10 months. The YAP will be developed in 2018 and launched in its fully accredited form in 2019.

This position is an exciting opportunity to join Open School East’s small and dynamic team, become part of a vibrant environment for artistic learning and play a role in developing a brand new programme, which reflects Open School East’s commitment to increasing equality of access to education and to making the arts a more open sector.

The post is offered as part of the Weston Jerwood Creative Bursaries programme. The programme provides paid entry-level placements at leading UK arts organisations, supported by a structured programme of ambitious professional development and peer mentoring.

Job Description

The Programme Assistant will spend a year working closely with OSE’s Directors and the broader team on the following areas:

  • Assisting with research into accreditation models, evaluation partners and the YAP’s recruitment strategy.
  • Assisting with the preparation and delivery of a 12 week-long programme for local young people from September to December 2018, as a testing ground for the fully-fledged Young Associates Programme.
  • Liaising with the art tutors in charge of delivering the programme.
  • Preparing handbooks for the young people taking part in the programme.
  • Setting up the necessary space, tools and materials for the programme.
  • Scheduling and minuting the YAP Advisory Committee meetings.

Job Specification

The Programme Assistant will be a well-organised, communicative, enthusiastic and motivated person with a passion for the arts. Additionally, the Programme Assistant should demonstrate an interest in working with young people and in an inclusive and flexible education setting.


To be eligible for a Weston Jerwood Creative Bursary applicants must:

  • Have graduated from a first degree (BA or equivalent) within the past two years (i.e. in 2015, 2016 or 2017). No minimum grade required.
  • Have received a full maintenance grant during the full period of their course and be able to verify it with the necessary paperwork for each year.
  • Be a full-time UK resident.
