We’ve been working with young people across the UK to unleash their potential and develop their talent. We’ll be highlighting some of the successful journeys of our Music Potential Graduates. Here’s Vanel’s Music Potential Experience…
After university, I was away in Ghana for 6 months doing freelance work working with young people and local artists. I had been following Music Potential on Twitter and thought I should apply as it looked like a great opportunity to improve my skills and network with like-minded people and industry professionals.
I was originally chosen to do either Radio or Music Production but I decided to pick Music Production. I really enjoyed it as I was able to work with different types of people in terms of production, and collaborating with new artists was a highlight as we could all learn something from each other. My tutor Miles was a great and he really helped me work on my craft.
After MPX, I was selected to do an internship with Atlantic Records. I was able to sit in during playlist meetings, and shadow different departments such as A&R, Press and Digital Marketing. The internship helped me improve my communication skills and now, I wouldn’t mind learning and becoming an A&R as the internship helped me connect with new people and learn how a record label operates. At the moment, I am still working on new music to release and working with new artists. Music Potential helped me a lot – I was close to quitting music but it gave me the motivation to keep going.
