Music Potential graduate and rising Afrobeats star, Kingsley Elenya is back with his new single entitled ‘Badder Than You’. We sat down with him to talk about his new music and his plans for the future.

Thank you for joining us this afternoon Kingsley!

Thanks for having me Big Music!

We know you have released a new track called ‘Badder Than You’. Could you tell us a bit about that?

I actually started off messing about on my keyboard! I came across a melody which I really liked, so I added a few extra elements to it including some lyrics from a song I had written a few years ago.

That’s really cool! Do you have a music video for this track?

Yes! The music video for ‘Badder Than You’ is currently up on my YouTube channel.

Great, we will definitely check that out! Would you say there are any financial hurdles in recording music and releasing music videos?

Definitely, especially with music videos. We usually have to use the resources we have access to. You eventually learn what’s possible to create from what’s not.

That is very true. Do you feel your video came out the way you wanted considering this?

I would say so. I’ve also received positive feedback which is always great.

That’s nice! Now, we’re going to ask you a few quick-fire questions!

Haha, okay Big Music!

Dream collaboration?

There are loads, but I’d have to say ‘2face’.

Favourite genre of music?

Afrobeats!

One song which represents your happy, sad and angry moods?

Haha, there are too many to mention!

Do you have a dream instrument you’d like to learn to play?

I play the keyboard, but I’d love to learn the acoustic guitar!

Two of your favourite artists?

Wow, that is a hard one! I’ll go with Eminem and 2face or Wayne Wonder.

Eminem or Wayne Wonder?

Haha, that is tough too. I’ll go with Wayne Wonder!

We’ll admit, that was a tough one! That is also the end of the quick-fire questions!

Those questions were pretty tough, but I hope I didn’t do too badly!

Haha, you actually did well. What was your experience being part of the Music Potential project?

At the time, I received a huge confidence boost. I also received a lot of encouragement from my peers and tutors which helped me out very much.

It’s great to know you were able to benefit from the project. Which area were you involved in?

I was part of the Music Production course.

Okay. Do you have advice for young people wanting to increase their popularity and develop their creativity?

Networking at music events and on social media is key to increasing your popularity! Developing your creativity is typically a personal thing, but listening to music often works for me.

That is great advice. Do you have any future plans or goals?

The plan right now is to start making music on a full-time basis. The long-term goal is to help those struggling to break into the music industry.

That’s great! We look forward to seeing what you have planned for the future!

Thanks Big Music!
